Contact microphones were used to record bridges, towers, and cranes along the Lachine Canal to reveal the inner resonances of some of the canal’s significant landmarks. Its chaotic, bustling industrial past is recast as an exploration of time and repetition. Inspired in part by fractal structures found in nature, Carrière composed sound pieces that give voice to the normally inaudible inner rumblings and creakings of four canal landmarks: the LaSalle Coke Crane, the Charlevoix bridge, the BP factory, and an Atwater Market cable tower.
